The official Largest ever 'Baul ARCHIVE' and PRESERVATION of Baul was complete decades ago, and it HAS ALREADY BEEN PRESERVED by Nabani Das Bauls Grandson BABU KISHAN as per Nabani and Brajabala wishes when Babu was very young. He has worked with a dogged determination and with a strong intent to do as his Baul Guru's from Birth have directed him. At the same time that he did this archive, because of his love of Music and his musical Genius he has done the same for Folk Music.

The International Baul Ashram, 'Bauls of Bengal',  will include research, preservation, translation, education, give support in the way of, food, medicine, health care, to support Baul performers, and their children.

Traditional authentic Baul spiritual Bhakti Yoga, including, Indian music, Indian Philosophy, Kirtan from an authentic India Kirtan lineage. Bauls are poets, philosophers, kirtan singers, and dancers. Babu's lineage are the only lineage of Bauls that is thousands of years old, they are the original Das and Dasi of West Bengal India.

A Baul in this lineage speaks sanskrit, they have an incredible power of memory and the ability to remember an unlimited amount of songs, these songs are seeds of higher philosophies. They sing their songs in the Bengali just as Tulsi Das translated the Hanuman Chalisa into the language of the common people, so too did the lineage Bauls, singing in Bengali.

This lineage have been singing Hare Krishna Maha mantra traveling from village to village for thousands upon thousands of years. Nityananda Mahaprabu was a Baul from this lineage. The lineage is brahmin, there are also many great Avadhuta's that also originate from this lineage. Radha and Krishna live in their hearts, but they also worship Kali and Shiva, they can and do include pearls of wisdom from Buddhism, and Sufi.

It is almost impossible to put Bauls into one category, to truly understand the depth, and just when you think you have them figured out, they show you something else, they are mystics, thery are the mystics of paradox. They are God/dess intoxicated Mystics, of the universe unseen, you do not have to understand their songs, it is best to listen with a spiritual ear, and fall into the BHAVA of the mystical sounds of thousands of years, a river of the unseen, a beautiful feeling of love..ecstatic divine god intoxicated love.

There are 5,000 to 10,000 pieces of Baul poetry in India to be translated, actually an unlimited amount. The Vaishnava Baul lineage has been an oral tradition, that has been passed on word of mouth through the sanskrit language. There is really not much traslated or known about these songs because Bauls are not part of regular society and do not want to pass anything along except to students of Guru's, really they do not care about the regular world. Bauls are elusive that is why they are almost extinct.

To be a Lineage Baul, your memory must be polished and developed from an early age, to hold and retain the songs, to learn the discourses of the songs, one song could contain the whole of the Bhagavad Gita, it is like a code language, seeds of higher philosophy. And of course to be a Baul you need to learn from a Baul Guru, a muslim Fakir is not a Baul. The Lineage Bauls are in no way connected or associated with a group of people calling themselves Western Bauls... Baul is a deep sadhana from the soil of Bengal, anyone can label themselves a Baul in this world today.. Beggars, westerns, charlatans but the real Bauls are the ones who are suffering, and they need help, so I would suggest to those who are westerns, or Baul singers please give something back to the Bauls.. do not just take.

Their songs are simple songs sung in Bengali, songs of Indian Philosophy, songs about Radha/ Krishna, Yoga, Ayurveda, Tantric songs..about the human body, the science behind the physical, and human energetics of life.

Their needs to be a place for the Bauls to go, an ashram, shelter, when they are not wandering, this is a basic need of all humans, realizing that Bauls are not an easy group of individuals to control. There needs to be a place to preserve this tradition, a place where International Students can also come and learn more about Baul.

In 2005 UNESCO labled Baul an intangible and ancient oral history of humankind.. the only problem with this is it is the Bauls of Bangladesh, yes they are Bauls but not the Lineage Bauls. The huge sums of money that went to Bangladesh to preserve Baul have not flowed over to the place where the Bauls originate in India... and the songs they are preserving are folk songs, they are not Baul songs. BAUL SONGS ARE NOT FOLK SONGS, Baul songs are spiritual sadhana..

Lineage Baul's,  originate from (Shantinekatan, Suri, Ekchakra, Birbhum,) (Nadia, Navadeep,) Bardwan, West Bengal. These are Indian Bauls, Vaishnava, Bauls, Tantric Bauls, they incorporate into Baul elements of Buddhism, and Sufi.. They the ancient oral lineage of Bauls who spoke sanskrit passing on their lineage for 5,000 years since the beginning of the story.

We are preserving the Das and Dasi lineage, this is BabuKishan Das Bauls lineage. Our vision is slightly different, from what is going on in Bangladesh, however, we surely would like some of the million dollars that a high official in Bangladesh convinced UNESCO to give him preserve the Bauls in Bangladesh.. I am sure the Bauls of Bangladesh would also love to see some of this money too.

The Bauls of Bangladesh arrived later, they are Sai, Aul, Fakir, Dervesh, as the name suggest they are Muslim Bauls, their songs are more related to Lalon Fakir, who no doubt was a great Baul, their songs are songs of rivers, water songs, more folk songs.

The Bauls of Bengal sing spiritual songs, they are spiritual messengers of all things Indian, they were the spiritual newspaper, before the newspaper. The spiritual internet before the internet spreading peace, divine ecstasy, love, bhava, and harmony to all people. Our mission is to not only preserve, but to create an ashram for everybody, including people from outside of India..

Bauls of Bengal are Vaishnava, and some can lean more towards Kali, and Shiva. For instance Sri Nabani Das Baul was a great Yogi, a Avadhuta, a wandering Sadhu a Kali Sadhaka at Tarapith, he also always carried Radha and Krishna in his heart. Other Bauls in this lineage were householder Bauls living a Vaishnava lifestyle, but in the lineage of Nityananda Mahaprabhu, they did not shave their heads, they had hair as Nityananda had hair, thus so did they, believing Krishna also had hair, they are the god intoxicated Rasa Lila Mystics...

(Preserving a traditional authentic Living Lineage of India)

Nabani Brijabala Baul Ashram

Bauls do not have temples, they have ashrams, not too long ago there used to be 22 in Bengal, now there are only 2, our goal is to preserve this dying tradition, and create a Baul ashram in the Bengali ancient oral tradition of Vaishnava Baul... so that they have a place, so that they at least can preserve this tradition.

Most new Baul singers are singing regular Folk Songs, there needs to be a place to educate them correctly on Bauls songs, Baul Sadhana a place for philosophical discourse... Bauls are sadhaka's, sadhika's, and are poets, philosophers, they speak sanskrit, they are peacekeepers, and spiritual guru's, teachers.

The Bauls also need a place to perform, to survive in this world.. they need education, medical care, and food. They need hope, there is too much poverty, they need a solid ground to stand on in this changing world. This was Babu's dream years ago. but due to difficult family karmas he was not able to complete this.. now is the time... for a Baul ashram in Santinekatan, and one outside of India...This is our Cause, so that the Bauls are given a chance at an authentic education, and survival.

"The Bauls of Bengal" registered in Mumbai India in 2007

This has been copied by many fake pretendian Bauls, almost word for word. We never did anything with this, however, it was never our intention for any fake pretendian Bauls to make up fake lineages and create fake financial fundraising campaigns in the name of Baul. When Babu Kishan aka Krishnendu Das Baul has already preserved Baul for 60 years in every way.
